A fresh start with a unique ring

January is the time for planning and bringing fresh ideas to the table. I bought a new diary and calendar for 2012 today and took my time picking the ones that felt just right. There are a lot of projects in the pipeline for 2012 but in order to start this year's blog in a pretty way with inspirational photographs, I thought I'd share the images of a ring that I made last year.

This is a one off ring that has been designed to work in conjunction with an existing ring. There won't ever be another one quite like it. Like the other rings in the Kvist series, the diamonds spread out along the lines of the pattern like water, giving a bright glimmer to just parts of the design. The ring itself was left matt, allowing the true colour of the white gold to compliment the natural colour and shine of the coffee diamonds.

Cocktail rings but no glass

Cocktail rings, but no glass. Well in the photos at least. It's the party season and these rings feel like they would be the perfect accessory to a little black dress. I've not had the chance to road test that yet, but wouldn't mind trying!

The significance of a dot

The dot can be a symbol for something or someone. One dot or several to represent family members or simply just a pattern?

Rainy days and subtle statements

Today I came accross these images from late summer. This oxidised silver ring is one of the thinner versions in this collection.  I have a white version of this ring without stones, which I wear as often as I remember to. It started as a test scenario, to see how the design faired with the trials of everyday life. I grew to like it more with time as it assumed it's own patina of scratches, and brought that little something extra.

The thin band and slight 'easy fit' curve on the inside make it a pretty practical ring, whilst still being that little bit different.

A continous wrapping band of silver and an offset flower creates an unusual minimalistic statement. 

A single black line and a splash of coffee unites the metals

The titanium rings are linked to the silver cufflinks by a single black line and a light coffee diamond held within the line. I like designing jewellery pieces that are related to one another through graphic details and form but move through different metals.

A Little bit of Gold After A Royal Wedding

Ok I'll admit it. I wasn't following the Royal Wedding until the big day and then I too was swept along in the spirit of things. Not Welsh gold, but my most Princess-Like ring to date! Small white diamonds illuminate the inner curve of the flower. The perfect compliment to anyone that feels like being a little bit of a Princess.

Titanium.

I'm working on some rings based on this model, with a few adaptations. They have a rounded profile, softer and smaller and will exude quite a different character when they're finished. That'll be interesting, but until then a word or two on these. Titanium is a lovely metal, light, strong and with an ability to be almost silky when matt. Combine this with a jet black stripe and the result is somewhat striking.

A little word of thanks to the talented stone setter who I work with on my more complicated settings and who allows me to design within the smallest of margins to achieve exactly the right results with stones. It's all in a ring

Rings are emotional things, symbolic for feelings, commitment and love. These thin lines criss cross and work together to support the larger stone - a thin balance but suitably composed, just like the perfect relationship.

Black diamonds shine in a different way

The colour of Palladium accentuates the blackness of these diamonds and together they make a beautiful, unusual combination.

February's Rings are light and fair

These slightly rounded titanium rings with a satin finish accentuate the scattered diamonds that glimmer like ice droplets against the soft tones of the metal. Accompanied by a thin white gold ring with a highly polished finish, the contrast is felt both in the differing weights and surface quality, yet they compliment one another perfectly.

February's rings are light and fair. Lovely symbols for a winter wedding and a life long commitment.

Naughty or Nice?

That is the question.......
This little unassuming ring spawned a series of etheral pieces in it's wake and was inspired by a bag of buttons from Belgrade. It's strangely unpredictable how new designs emerge and grow from paths crossing and objects with a story to tell.

Fresh air
