Tomorrow is officially the first day back to work after the festive season, even if quite a few people have been working through the break. It's practical simple jewellery that is the key for everyday use. Tiny studs that can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion, and a simple yet unique handsawn necklace that works with many different outfits. Simplicity in silver.

Leaf Earrings

I've been wanting to blog about these earrings for a while. I made these as a special commission just before the summer. It was a lovely project as they were a development from a necklace that I had made for the Spring Exhibition at LOD and they were designed for a wedding.

Long and elegant yet light and airy with a matt white finish. The edges of the earrings were accentuated with a burnished line which captured the light and sparkled, highlighting the graphic design of the leaves with every movement.

As Promised......

Just  quickie this morning with the oxidised versions of the drop earrings from the Park Life Collection and a weekend recommendation for those of you that are going to be in Stockholm on Saturday.

I love the lustre of grey and pink pearls to the blackness of the oxidised silver.  As with everything oxidised, these earrings will change as they age. Some of the oxidisation will rub off with time, depending on how often they are worn. Eventually they will find a happy balance between white and oxidised silver, resembling the feel of 'Antique Silver'.

Silver earrings with White Pearls

It's rained a lot of late, but with that comes occasional, but undeniably wonderful lighting conditions, like the wet light through the window above. Maybe it was a break in the clouds, but I took the chance.

I like the versatility of these earrings. Designed more as a special occasion earring, I've been road testing them everyday and can say that I feel a little bit special when I wear them. The verdict? They tone up the everyday and compliment the special occasion.

Helmikuu

Helmikuu, means 'Month Of the Pearl' and is the Finnish for February. 'When ice droplets melt and then freeze again, they form small pearls of ice on the branches of trees'. February is my favourite month because I was born then and I feel a connection. It is a cold, dark and often overlooked month in the course of the year. Despite this, it has always held something special for me.

I felt that the images conjured by the Finns' description of February deserved a little project in their honour as they have so beautifully captured that magical essence of February. I decided to create very delicate earrings, during February, that encorporated pearls in an almost transient way to honour 'Helmikuu'.

Reminiscent of butterfly wings, but inspired by intersecting branches, these hand sawn silver earrings are light but very graphical.
